Shaft couplings

High precision shaft couplings

Our focus is on torsionally-stiff, flexible shaft couplings as connecting elements between the drive unit and transducer. These shaft couplings are characterised by backlash-free, angle-synchronous transmission of forces, high torsional rigidity and minimum restoring forces. The  very low resulting load on the shaft bearings considerably extends the service life of systems and machines. Available as stock or special production.

Why shaft couplings?

Manufacturing and assembly tolerances, as well as bearing clearance and temperature influences, cause misalignment between shafts in drive technology. These sometimes lead to considerable bearing loads. The consequences are increased wear and premature system failure. By using our shaft couplings, these misalignments can be compensated and the bearing loads reduced to a minimum.

Shaft couplings of all types: whether bellows, spring or cross slotted couplings

Different coupling principles can be selected for each application. Here, our guiding principle applies: "The torsion spring stiffness must be as high as necessary, the restoring forces must be as low as possible. Our specialists will be happy to offer comprehensive and competent advice for your project. We help with the selection.

Requirements for high-precision shaft couplings

In the area of rotary encoders, the coupling must be torsionally-stiff and flexible in order to reduce restoring forces on the bearings. Classic application: A high-precision measuring instrument in which hardly any forces are transmitted. Here, the coupling need only to be rigid so that the movement can be transmitted 1:1. For other applications more torsion is required; here you need a soft coupling that can compensate more, but which does not have to be quite as precise. Thanks to our wide range, we always find the right solution.

The special abp know-how for the "perfect wave"

abp has been a specialist in the market for shaft couplings for decades. The components look simple at first glance, but a lot of know-how goes into them. The shaft couplings produced by our engineers have properties that result from their special geometry. The intermediate piece always plays the supporting role, whether it is a milled helix in the form of a bellows, a metal bellows or another solution.
We supply solutions with various lengths. Depending on the application, you´ll need more space in the length or the diameter.  Sometimes the temperature is important: Is plastic suitable at 200 degrees? can adhesives be processed? is the application in a vacuum? These are the questions to which we always have an answer, usually already in stock!
