Gears transmit rotary motion and torque. They consist of a gear body with precisely designed teeth. Different types of gearing and gearbox designs are used depending on the geometry and the application requirements.

A gear drive consists of one or more pairs of gears. It changes the speed and direction of rotary motion and torque. A constant gear ratio is therefore required for smooth operation.
